“The Picasso 1973-2023 Celebration” will comprise up to 40 exhibitions across Europe and North America and will celebrate the legacy of Pablo Picasso.
It is a tribute to the figure of the artist, a faithful defender of human rights and freedom of expression throughout his career. It will be held next year and will be organised by various prominent figures from the art world, such as Cécile Debray, president of the Picasso Museum in Paris, and Bernard Ruiz-Picasso, the painter’s grandson.
A way of forging closer ties between French and Spanish cultures at a time when art has been pushed into the background by the pandemic. The culture ministries of both nations describe Guernica as “the greatest international antithetical symbol of our modern history”. A recurring theme that reflects the horrors of war and could be applied to the current Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
