As with previous collections, UNIQLO’s parent company Fast Retailing will continue to donate 100% of the profits from the sale of the T-shirts (equivalent to 20% of the retail price) to three international aid organisations – UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, Save the Children and Plan International – that provide assistance to people affected by poverty, discrimination, violence and conflict.
UNIQLO launched the PEACE FOR ALL project on 17 June 2022, with the message that a T-shirt can help make the world a better place. As of September, a total of more than 484,000 T-shirts have been sold, raising more than $1 million (calculation period until 31 August). Currently 20 collaborators have supported the project’s goal of supporting world peace and taking action by volunteering their time and effort to create T-shirts with unique designs.
KAWS
I wanted this design to serve as a reminder that we are all responsible for this planet and it is our job to come together and take care of it. Our relationship with planet Earth is fragile and we cannot let it slip through our fingers.
KAWS engages audiences beyond the museums and galleries in which it regularly exhibits. Over the past two decades, he has built a successful career with works that showcase his skill as an artist as well as his underlying wit, irreverence and affection for our times.
KEITH HARING
The late Keith Haring created this artwork as a symbol of world peace. He wanted to represent people from all over the world coming together to defend peace on earth.
A key figure in the New York East Village scene of the late 1970s and 1980s, the works of American artist Keith Haring filled not only the art galleries, but also the subways, streets and pavements of the city. His work often combined an iconographic vocabulary that included hearts, flying saucers, winged figures and a crawling “glowing baby” with abstract marks and patterns.
LISA LARSON
The image speaks of unconditional friendship and trust. The vulnerable girl is sitting on the back of the wild beast. We must trust in Peace and choose the path of Peace. The lion symbolises strength, loyalty and courage. It takes courage to stand against violence. The protection of the child symbolises the protection of the future of the human race. Trust is not fear. Peace is strength.
Born in 1931 in Härlunda, Småland province in southern Sweden. In 1954 she started working for the porcelain company, Gustavsberg. Later, as the company’s top designer, she became a pillar of the golden age of Swedish ceramics. In 1980, Larson left the company to work as a freelance designer. In 1992, she co-founded Keramikstudion Gustavsberg. Full of life, Lisa continued to create new designs for the industry as well as exclusive ceramic pieces.
PEANUTS
The group of friends who inhabit the world of Peanuts display a wide range of personalities: daring, nervous, romantic, curious, thoughtful and adventurous. What unites them is their friendship and sense of community. For decades, the characters have resonated with fans for displaying all the elements of humanity. This design reflects both the affection that the characters had for each other, and the affection that Peanuts inspires around the world.
Charles M. Schulz, the creator of the Peanuts comic strips, drew 17,897 strips over half a century from 1950 (the year he began syndicating his comic strips in seven US newspapers) until his death in 2000.
WIM WENDERS
I have never seen more of a horizon in my life than that day in the Western Australian outback. And at the end of that road, I was sure that behind the horizon, we could only find a peaceful future.
Wim Wenders is one of the most acclaimed filmmakers of our time, winning the Palme d’Or for PARIS, TEXAS and more than 20 awards worldwide for WINGS OF DESIRE. His documentaries have received three Oscar nominations and he was recently awarded the Praemium Imperiale. His photographs have been exhibited in museums around the world.
The five new UT designs will be on sale from 15 December in Uniqlo shops and online.
Simplicity and creativity meet in UNIQLO and MARNI’s second collection.
