Valentino and its creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli, set out to conquer the Italian city of canals, Venice (the venue of their latest and long-awaited show), with its Haute Couture collection. As expected, this is precisely what happened after discovering his FW21 “Couture” proposal, as the guests were left almost speechless.
Composed of 84 men’s and women’s looks and filled with a wide range of bright colours, which contrasted with the dress-code of the guests, and prints made in collaboration with 17 painters such as Jamie Nares, Luca Coser, Francis Offman, Wu Rui or Andrea Respino, Valentino once again crowned himself as one of the kings of couture. Dubbed by many as a sublime collection, Pierpaolo presented a series of dreamy and unforgettable dresses, some of which stood out for their colourful collages and others simply for looking like true works of art or museum pieces. The last ten dresses with which the creative director closed the show, among which was a ball gown accompanied by a cape, which had required 700 hours, 107 metres of fabric and customised screens for hand printing, were undoubtedly a highlight.
On the other hand, this collection not only stood out for its impressive dresses, but also for the accessories that accompanied them, such as the gigantic ostrich frond hats by the milliner Philip Treacy or the long leather gloves, which contrasted perfectly with the tones of the looks.
