This spring, Vans teams up with New York’s Lower East Side designer Sandy Liang for a third footwear and apparel collaboration inspired by the ’90s and childhood nostalgia.
Sandy Liang has once again put her stamp on some of Vans‘ most iconic garments, seeking to elevate beloved styles. From head to toe, the collection reflects the designer’s deeply personal connection to New York City.
With passions spanning fashion, film, architecture and conceptual design, Sandy Liang embodies the creative expression that is synonymous with Vans. She uses grandma fashion, women’s sports, nostalgia and humour as her design principles for the range of footwear and apparel. This season’s footwear line includes four classic styles.
The Sk8-Hi Platform 2.0 features a delicate detonated upper with rose embroidery; while the Style 73 DX takes inspiration from the Sidestripe and floral embroidery on one side of the upper and “Lower East Side Lover” on the other. Vans‘ original deck shoe, the Authentic 44 DX, gets a makeover in multicoloured gingham fabric and a lace-up collar and detachable pouch on the tongue. In addition, Liang helps Vans debut a new silhouette: the Sk8-Hi Tapered Modular, a hi-top with a deconstructed slim collar that features a novelty lace-up trim and a removable sole unit so the style can be transformed and worn with or without the sole.
Key looks in the clothing range include the Vans x Sandy Liang Chore Coat in cotton canvas with all-over embroidery; patch pockets and corduroy collar for a new take on a workwear staple. The hoodie is a heavyweight French terry with a relaxed fit and custom screen-printed detailing, and pairs perfectly with the Authentic Chino; a twill trouser that has been updated to include novelty embroidery on various parts of its silhouette.
Accessories such as the bucket hat in cotton canvas with daisy embroidery, the nylon crossbody bag or the sherpa crossbody bag to match the turtleneck jacket are the perfect allies for this season.
Sandy has opted for intentionally ironic graphics on both footwear and clothing. The Authentic 44 DX is a digitally printed replica of a trainer that the designer customised with doodles. The butterflies are transferred to a short-sleeved T-shirt; a jumper and crossbody bag to match. The beloved Half Cab 33 DX has been transformed with a green sherpa upper and custom floral eyelet.
The Vans x Sandy Liang collection will be available from 28 January 2022 in selected Vans shops; Vans.eu and SandyLiang.info.
