Victoria’s Secret returns to the catwalk: what you need to know about its comeback

The brand is preparing to return to the fashion world with the Victoria’s Secret World Tour, an updated and more conscious version of its historic runway shows.

Victoria’s Secret returns to the catwalk: what you need to know about its comeback

The show will be approached as a documentary rather than just a runway show, and is conceived as a celebration of feminine beauty in all its forms and nuances, continuing the reinvention of the brand that has taken place in recent years.

In 2018, the U.S. company canceled its annual fashion show due to accusations of misogyny against its former boss, Ed Razek, and criticism for its lack of inclusivity and promotion of an unrealistic ideal of female beauty. Since then, Victoria’s Secret has replaced its angels with the VS Collective, expanded its size range and developed products it had previously overlooked, such as nursing and post-mastectomy bras.

The new fashion show is committed to inclusivity and diversity: the company is committed to not repeating the mistakes of the past, which perpetuated an unattainable beauty stereotype and encouraged sexism. Raul Martinez, creative director of Victoria’s Secret, says: “We have evolved and moved forward, but without losing anything along the way. We look at both our new storytelling, which is our mission to celebrate the voices of all women, as well as pure entertainment, to continue to offer audiences something iconic.”

The Victoria’s Secret World Tour will feature four young designers with different backgrounds: Supriya Lele from London, Bubu Ogisi from Lagos, Jenny Fax from Tokyo and Melissa Valdes from Bogota. Each of them will create their own underwear collection, which will be presented as part of the documentary along with films showing the creative process. The Victoria’s Secret team will also design other garments for the event.

Singer Doja Cat will headline the show. In addition to performing on the world tour, she has also designed exclusive garments for the event along with the Victoria’s Secret team and its creative director, Brett Alan Nelson.

The lingerie brand has revealed a teaser, previewing some of the models who will be participating. Among them are Hailey Bieber, Naomi Campbell, Gigi Hadid, Honey Dijon, Imaan Hammam, Iris Law and Lila Moss, as well as angels Candice Swanepoel, Lily Aldridge and Adriana Lima.

The Victoria’s Secret World Tour will be available on Prime Video starting September 26.

In other news, Kylie Jenner stars in Acne Studios’ FW23 denim campaign.
