Appointed creative director for Jean Paul Gaultier’s SS22 Haute Couture line, Glenn Martens has just presented the Y/Project FW22 collection full of trompe l’oeil and denim at Paris Fashion Week.
Set in a giant warehouse in northern Paris, the show starred the designer’s friends Camille Bidault-Waddington and Olivier Theyskens, along with a cast of models dressed in suits, shirts, dresses and more, with details that fused Y/Project with Gaultier’s signature style. “Glenn proposed to me. I know him and I love him. We work in the same neighbourhood and we both come from Belgium. I think Glenn appreciates the freedom of the characters,” said Olivier Theyskens before the show began.
“We took one of his most iconic prints and interpreted it in the Y/Project way. It has many layers: you have men’s and women’s prints and they go on top of each other,” explained Martens just a week before he joined JPG for the Haute Couture show. In true Gaultier style, denim body prints and sleeveless T-shirts flooded Y/Project. These pieces were paired with unstructured coats and jackets, as well as oversized quilted silhouettes, knitwear and balaclavas.
