It all started with Bella Hadid stealing Brandon’s Shake Shack burger at her arrival. The frenetic life of a model in NYFW makes impossible even grabbing a bite between shows. Once in the catwalk, the Texas-themed collection Maxwell presented seduced everyone in the room and the soundtrack, which included “Like a virgin” transformed the rigid ambiance into a moment of release.

When Irina Shayk opens a show the statement is clear: Be prepared. The recent winner of the Womenswear Designer of the Year Award at the CFDA Fashion Awards 2019 delighted his guests with a range of casual silhouettes, denim and night dresses that covers all the necessities related to fashion a cosmopolitan woman can have in a daily basis. Leather pieces, tailored jackets and pants, fluid gowns and a clear stake on distressed jeans and easy-to-combine palettes conquered Brandon Maxwell’s fans.

With a clientele that goes from Michele Obama to Meghan Markel, Jennifer Lawrence, Karlie Kloss or even Queen Rania of Jordan (what a cool name for a country) it looks like the American designer has landed with the right feet in the always tricky fashion industry.

One of the most commented pieces were a pair of earrings with the shape of a “B” (for obvious reasons). Ankle-strapped sandals are going to be a must next Spring and the romantic touch of the jewelry brought some color and joy to the collection. Mini pochettes keep stealing the show in every season.

But, above all, the most remarkable moment was the launch of Maxwell’s first ever men’s collection. Suits and tailoring pieces were the strongest bet for the Longview-born creative.

Besides Irina Shayk, Brandon Maxwell included in his SS20 show top models like Bella Hadid, Candice Swanepoel, Grace Elizabeth, Stella Maxwell and Emily DiDonato, who unveil what appear to be a massive upcoming trend that combines cropped silhouettes with floor-length trains. We’ll stay tuned.

Texas knows how to hold ’em.
