After presenting the SS21 collection, Demna Gvasalia continues to present new items belonging to the Balenciaga capsule. Among them are the X-Pander sneakers, which are now available for pre-order.
If there is one thing we are sure about this new footwear model is that it will create controversy, like everything Gvasalia launches. The X-Pander will be available in the following shades “Burgundy”, “White”, “Black”, “Grey/Green” and “Yellow/Grey/Black” through a silhouette of the most avant-garde thanks to the incorporation of a suspended heel. The technology employed allows this heel to compress when stepped on, simulating a typical running shoe from the 2000s.
Analyzing the X-Pander, we find references to previous models such as the Track Sneaker, as the front and the mesh base are quite similar. On the other hand, the overlapping nylon and rubber panels offer a much more technical style. As for the logo, the iconic “BB” has been replaced by a modern “B” located on the toe of the shoe and also on the upper; while the sizing is found on the heel.
