On July 21, the artist shared a brief but eloquent message on her Twitter account: “The album is complete,” accompanied by a croissant, immediately sparking a wave of speculation among her followers. The use of French didn’t go unnoticed. A clue about the project’s aesthetic direction? A nod to the universe of Vie?
For months, Doja Cat‘s movements have pointed toward a profound redesign of her artistic identity. During her appearance at the 2025 Oscars, she sported a two-tone hairstyle—blonde and black—that many immediately recognized as a clear sign of the beginning of a new era.
The album, which according to various sources will be titled Vie, has been the subject of mystery and provocation. The artist has deleted almost her entire social media presence, retaining just two tweets from 2024. In one, her location is listed as “my ass”; in another, she has replaced her header with a strongly sensual image, reaffirming the subversive nature of her narrative.
But what’s most fascinating about this revival is its strong inspiration from Grace Jones. From sharp silhouettes to an attitude that defies mainstream binary categorization, everything indicates that Doja Cat is in full Jones coding: a direct reference to the Jamaican singer and model whose influence has spread like a spectrum across fashion, art, and music since the 1980s.
The geometric haircut, the androgynous sensuality, the aggressively refined stage presence: all these elements point to a Doja Cat determined to dismantle the pop star image built on her previous works, such as Hot Pink and Planet Her, which she herself has described as “cash grabs.” In the artist’s own words: “Now I can disappear to an island with my loved ones while you all cry over mediocre pop.”
Although Scarlet (2023) marked a transition towards a darker, more conceptual sound, everything suggests that Vie will be an even more radical statement: not only musical, but aesthetic, philosophical and political.
