Diesel has chosen Gosha Rubchinskiy, a reference in post-Soviet fashion, as the new designer to create the Red Tag x UR-Uniforma collection.
The new association between the brand and the Russian designer will not be presented with a simple fashion show of the collection, but with a performance at the Venice Art Biennaleon May 9. Tomorrow London platform, which recruits the best emerging talents for large creative companies in London, is responsible for publicizing the collaboration beforehand.
Diesel Red Tag gives new designers the opportunity to reinterpret and reimagine the Diesel essence through capsule collections. Shayne Oliver (Hood by Air) and Glenn Martens (Y/Project) were among those chosen for previous collaborations. Now it’s Gosha Rubchinskiy’s turn, whose characteristic style is a glorious mix between urban neosport aesthetics and post-Soviet fashion. The designer says it’s a dream to work with such a big brand whose clothes he wanted to have in the 90s.
For Gosha Rubchinskiy, this collaboration is a decisive action, since it is his return to the industry after the scandal that shook his reputation only a couple of months ago. The designer was accused of exchanging sexual photographs with underage boys, something he fervently denied to the media. In April last year, his brand of the same name was closed, although Rubchinskiy assured in Instagram that “something new is yet to come”.
Two weeks ago he announced that he was referring to his GR-Uniforma project, which will debut at the Dover Street Market in March. It’s an artistic project that goes beyond fashion by hybridizing audiovisual art, performance, photography and music. It seems that the designer is regaining his reputation and his place in the industry.
