After being finalist for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award and his conquer of NYFW, Víctor Barragán is no longer an emerging talent. His clairvoyance of what he wants to bring to the industry has lift him to the “New Icon” category and everyone is anxious to see what’s next for the Mexican designer.
It’s been one hell of a ride for Víctor Barragán. He’s all about the speech, not the garments. His social beliefs and his perspective about how we live today made him question everything around him. From gender to identity politics and how fashion used to put a label on everything, the Mexican designer goes hard on unisex creations and is committed to his culture and roots, projecting it in every collection and statement.
His impact is palpable and major figures like Rosalía in “Yo x ti, tu x mí” video’s opening look are elevating his unisex baby tee, making it an iconic piece already.
In Barragán’s (@barragan) Holiday 19 Capsule we’ll find his contemporary classics. Besides the before mentioned baby tee, this last drop offers the Chain Tee that comes with a necklace attached to the front of the piece, monogram hoodies in black and horchata white, and his awaited graphic tees. The design is a nod to Nobel Prize laureate Octavio Paz’s essay on masks and how clowns are a metaphor for Mexicans, also an aesthetic highly embraced by Chicano culture.
Shots by Elvin Tavárez (@friedplatano) represent the sense of freedom and complex-free attitude Víctor expresses in his designs through an analogue aesthetic in the editorial. Blurry images with strident unfocused lights provide that wildness of youth Barragán emanates.
Holidays are all about celebration and losing it a little bit. Barragán is your go-to firm in your quest for realness.
Masks off.
