Elon Musk’s new project is a chip that is implanted in the brain

If Elon Musk is a conflicted and controversial guy, his projects are even more so. On this occasion, the entrepreneur has presented Neuralink, a company that proposes to implant tiny microchips in human brains.

The project has already requested human trials, although so far only animals have been tested. In the presentation of Neuralink they showed how it works through a pig called Gertrude. Thanks to him, it was possible to see her brain activity in a live graph.

The chip is the size of a coin and, according to Musk himself, it will fit “quite well in your skull”. “It could be under your hair and you wouldn’t know it.

The Neuralink implant is intended to help people with neurological diseases such as dementia, Parkinson’s disease or spinal cord injuries.

Eventually, Musk foresees that the technology will produce “a symbiosis with artificial intelligence”. However, he wanted to make it clear that through this chip he does not intend to take over people’s brains or strange things.

This long-term goal could make Musk’s greatest fear come true: that artificial intelligence will be more powerful than humanity itself.
