Feng Chen Wang’s new Bamboo bag comes in the shape of a heart

Since the brand’s inception, Feng Chen Wang’s bamboo bag has been a classic. In recent years, the label has produced all sorts of new iterations of its iconic accessory; and for FW23, Feng Chen Wang has opted to reissue it in the shape of a heart.

The heart-shaped bag, like its other square, cylindrical and oval iterations, is made of bamboo. Wang is from the Fujian region of China, where the plant is harvested en masse. The designer gets help in planting, growing, harvesting and reworking his materials. In particular, Wang hires women artisans, who have worked with bamboo for decades, to create the product.

The bamboo requires three months of preparation after it has been harvested. In that time, Wang’s team cuts the plant into strips and shapes them before oiling and polishing each piece. After hand-gluing parts of the plant together, the bamboo is finally ready to be assembled into the shape of a bag. Adding the finishing touch, Wang wraps each silhouette with a leather backing, embossed with the designer’s logo.
