Maximilian Davis presents his second collection for Ferragamo as part of the Pre-Fall 2023 season. A proposal inspired by Salvatore’s career in Los Angeles, the enclave where the founder opened his first shoe store during the spring of 1923, making connections with some Hollywood stars like Monroe or Judy Garland.
The opportunistic charm of the city of L.A. envelops this exciting proposal inspired by the glamour of Hollywood which pays tribute to the career of the founder of the house. Likewise, it is a collection in which he channels a clear inspiration from Western wear, specifically from Salvatore’s work in his tailoring and design work for the 1923 silent film “The Covered Wagon“.
“I want to create a new Hollywood for Ferragamo, and it’s about introducing new ways of dressing for both red carpet and everyday wear,” Davis said in a press release.
AN ODE TO THE WEST
The mix between cold and warmth also interweaves this constellation of pieces that drinks from the aesthetic eclecticism, with which Davis now builds the new Hollywood of Ferragamo. An episode to remember in which we can appreciate from silk column dresses or tight suits, to polished and simple silhouettes enhanced by a series of fabrics and elevated tailoring.
A timeless universe in which cashmere jumpsuits coexist, combined with equestrian boots or leather bags, as well as Canadian tuxedos and leather pants that make a direct nod to the cowboy boots that Ferragamo designed for the silent western of 1923.
In this sense, Davis immerses the entire collection in a series of design codes of the American West inspired by the film, between cowboy coats, pants or shirt dresses that project that cinematic mentality.
A whole series of references merge with the Hollywood style through a color palette inspired by a painting by Mark Rothko and geometric motifs that pay tribute to the ‘Sun Tunnels’ installations by Nancy Holt. Not to mention his reinterpretation of the iconic “naked dress” worn by celebrities such as Rihanna and Beyoncé, now sculpted as a sensual and hypnotic piece in the scarlet mesh.
Last but not least, fine fabrics become an essential part of this creative composition, with utilitarian pants or golden bustier dresses made of eel skin, adorned with patches or polished leather buckles that finish elevating the proposal. One in which the British designer articulates his vision by fusing his DNA with the timeless elegance and sophistication of the Maison.
