The movie ‘Barbie’ directed by Greta Gerwig has turned out to be a huge success, setting records in several aspects. Its leading lady, Margot Robbie, will receive around $50 million, including her salary and box office bonuses.
Gerwig is also expected to receive substantial bonuses due to the film’s success. Just one month after its release, ‘Barbie’ continues to generate talk and has grossed $526.3 million at the domestic box office and $657.6 million internationally, totaling approximately $1.18 billion. It is currently the highest-grossing live-action film directed by a woman globally.
The film is produced by LuckyChap Entertainment, the film production company founded by Robbie in 2014 with her husband Tom Ackerley, and friends Josey McNamara and Sophia Kerr. The company’s primary goal has been to give voice to women’s stories on screen and support female creators behind the scenes. To date, LuckyChap Entertainment has been involved in acclaimed projects such as ‘Promising Young Woman’, along with ‘Birds of Prey’ and the Netflix series, ‘Maid’.
