The collection includes collaborations with Lacoste, Vans, Timberland and Dickies.
Asian inspiration comes as a way of paying tribute to their origins on the occasion of the Chinese Lunar New Year. To reinforce its identity, the cast of models in the lookbook is entirely Asian. The pieces are inspired by Anita Mui and Leslie Cheung, two iconic figures from Hong Kong cinema in the 80s that revolutionized gender codes at the time. Opening Ceremony, which describes itself as an “innovative retail environment and a global fashion brand”, has counted Vans, Timberland, Dickies and Lacoste among its collaborators for this collection.
Known for their break from conventionality, the co-founders Humerto Leonand Carol Him organized a “pig dinner” in honor of this year’s Chinese calendar to present the collection. They also created a massive party and opened a Pearl River Mart store. Nothing new in the spontaneous dynamics of the designers, who previously ran a fashion show at Disneyland or presented their collection with a series of dancers wearing their garments.

The designers carry one slogan per flag. “We have to love what we do, have a smile on our faces and enjoy the work”. A mantra that explains why their work is a mixture of savoir faire and chaotic spontaneity.
