Yes, the Sónar we know is postponed until 2022, but this fall will celebrate two new festivals in Barcelona. With face-to-face activities at the CCCB and an online content program, the production will be in collaboration with different local and international partners.
This will be the first time Sónar organizes the AI and Music festival, focused on the applications and challenges of artificial intelligence in music creation. This unique festival is promoted by the S+T+ARTS program of the European Commission in association with the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and betevé.
Likewise, SónarCCCB will be held again, although differently from last year. The festival for the new year is expected to be larger, more on-site and with a greater presence of music. The Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) will host the format. There will be different stages dedicated to live music as well as the usual Sónar+D conferences, workshops, debates and presentations.
Both festivals will have a hybrid format, predominantly on-site. But Sónar’s activity in 2021 is not only limited to these dates, but expands until the end of the year with synergies both locally and internationally. As for the edition of Sónar Barcelona scheduled for this June, it is postponed and will be held on June 15, 16, 17 and 18, 2022.
More details about AI and Music Festival, SónarCCCB and Sónar 2022 will be announced very soon. In the meantime, online activity will be available through sonar.es, sonarplusd.com and the hashtag #ThisIsSonar, on the Sónar and Sónar+D social media.
