When WTAPS and New Balance first joined forces in 2020, their joint creation, the 992, stood out as one of the best shoes of the year. The follow-up, the 990v2 in 2021, maintained a more subtle aesthetic, and now, WTAPS continues to apply this principle to their latest creation within the 990 family.
At first glance, the WTAPS 990v6 looks like a gray-toned design, combining suede, nubuck and mesh on the upper. The only distinguishing detail is the “USA” graphic on the back of the lateral side, along with subtle WTAPS branding elements that replace the American flag on the heel and are also found on the insoles. Small finishing touches include NB branding on the tongue and a tri-color ENCAP midsole with FuelCell cushioning technology.
WTAPS is the second collaborator to reinterpret the 990v6, following Action Bronson’s “Baklava” and “Lapis Lazuli” designs. Most of the special releases for this sneaker come from Teddy Santis’ MADE in USA line.
The WTAPS x New Balance 990v6 will be available in Japan starting Friday, August 25, priced at approximately $301 USD including tax. So far, no worldwide release date has been announced.
