The second capsule collection inspired by David Lynch and Mark Frost’s cult series launches on 7 February.
The fact that Jun Takashi is a fan of ‘Twin Peaks’ comes as no surprise to anyone. The series, starring Kyle MacLachlan, Sheryl Lee, Sherilyn Fenn, Lara Flynn Boyle and Michael Ontkean, took the early 1990s by storm and became one of the most influential and enigmatic productions in television history. At first glance, it seemed like a typical detective story, in which an FBI agent arrives in a small town in Washington State to investigate the murder of Laura Palmer, the popular girl at the local high school. But very soon the story deviated from conventional narrative and ventured into uncharted territory, mixing mystery, surrealism, eccentric humour and psychological horror in a way that had never been done before.
Twenty-four years later, UNDERCOVER presented a unique capsule collection, bringing together two seemingly opposite but deeply connected worlds: fashion and art, punk and streetwear, design and pop culture. This first instalment, presented as part of the Autumn/Winter 2024 menswear collection, was a preview of what was to come. It was christened “Wonderful and Strange”, and already hinted at functional art with direct references to the surrealist imagery of the series, iconic images and symbolism that resonated with the fragmented and dreamlike aesthetic. That collection included nearly 80 pieces, many of them adorned with official graphics and evocative scenes, using techniques such as jacquard, elaborate embroidery and carefully integrated prints.
Now, a new launch is emerging that functions as a kind of ‘second season’ where the narrative universe of Twin Peaks continues to be explored through a down jacket, made of lightweight nylon taffeta and available in red and blue (two colours that recur frequently in the series); and a brushed cotton crew neck sweatshirt with a logo on the back that recovers the iconography of the production, all in brown and black.
The items will go on sale on 7 February via the official UNDERCOVER website.
