Yahoo! Answers closes after 16 years on the internet. The community-driven question and answer platform has been forced to disappear from the virtual context as it has been relegated to a practically non-existent level.
The forum launched in 2005 or the oldest question-and-answer platform on the web will turn off its blue light for good on 4 May. In a statement, the company explained part of the reasons for its closure:
“While Yahoo Answers was once a key part of Yahoo’s products and services, it has become less popular over the years as our members’ needs have changed. As a result, we have decided to shift our resources away from Yahoo! Answers to focus on products that better serve our members and deliver on Yahoo’s promise to provide trusted, premium content.”
Another reason for the disappearance of Yahoo Answers has been a large number of competitors such as Google, with its own question and answer section, as well as others such as Quora. Yahoo plans to close the platform completely on 4 May, although users will have until 30 June to download archived content.
