The collection was clearly inspired by Picasso and the Cubist movement. Undoubtedly, a tribute to one of the kings of Spanish painting.
Another of the stars of the night was Rosalía (@rosalia.vt) who, although she wasn’t there physically, her music was played at full volume. The models walked to the beats of “Malamente”, “Que no salga la luna” and “De aquí no salen”. And, although we were surprised by this musical choice, the truth is that Rosalía and Moschino have been pretty close lately. In fact, during his video “Fucking Money Man” which included the songs “Millonaria” and “Dio$ No$ Libre Del Dinero”, she wore two looks of the brand.
But the singer wasn’t the only Spaniard in the show. Both culture and national art were present. There were even flamencas, bullfighters and Spanish guitars. The collection represents two very different pictorial styles of Picasso. The Pink Period when he was already installed in Paris, easily identifiable by the use of pastel tones and the circus theme. And, secondly, Cubism, where it is intended to represent all possible ways of seeing a figure.
The reference to Picasso’s paintings is constant. For example, “The Weeping Woman” painted in 1937, in which he presents the suffering and pain of a woman before the Spanish Civil War.
“Violin and grapes” of 1912, where the painter decides to move away from the standard and boring principles of representing various objects.
Or “Girl before a Mirror”, considered one of his masterpieces, known for its varied interpretations.
While some try to draw the line between inspiration and imitation, others do not hesitate to accuse Jeremy Scott of having made a copy and paste of past collections and even stealing sketches from a fashion student (@dorothy_r_s_williams) without giving her anything in return.
On the other hand, and as an anecdote, to highlight that it was a somewhat complicated runway, more than one model has suffered some mishap while walking – even Irina Shayk has stumbled.
The other sister Hadid, Bella, dressed as a harlequin has also generated controversy in the nets as she recalls a John Galliano model for Dior Fall 2007. But in fashion everything is already, or almost everything, invented.
This collection is probably Jeremy Scott’s most studied proposal. A pure declaration of love to Spain.
Moschino, spring 2020. Nobody dares to argue anymore that fashion is not art, because this collection is museum worthy.
