Jean Paul Gaultier revisits his archives for the new Cyber collection. This time, the brand merges the worlds of two of its former fashion shows, “Les Amazones” FW96 and “Cyberbaba” SS96.
The result is a ready-to-wear capsule that takes us back to the brand’s 90s, focusing on two main elements. On the one hand, the polka dot pattern of “Les Amazones”, inspired by the work of artist Victor Vasarely, gives life to garments as a second skin. On the other hand, the iconic “holes” of the “Cyberbaba” look are now transformed into laser holes that we find in single-color pieces.
Although slim-fit garments make up the majority of the collection, the classic military silhouette makes its way into Jean Paul Gaultier’s cyber world. The series includes bombers and suit jackets that are interspersed with maxi parkas and baggy pants.
Jewelry featured in the capsule, it is signed by Adriana Manso. La Manso, the 3D printing expert jeweler, reinterprets her iconic globular ring, which adopts the Vasarely print, and we also see it in the form of bracelets and American cuffs to give exuberance to the proposal. This model comes along with brass rings and necklaces topped by a huge sphere, sometimes in monochrome and sometimes in gradient.
In its commitment to inclusion and diversity, for the campaign of this line, Jean Paul Gaultier launched a casting open to the public in mid-September, to which 837 people responded. As a result, the campaign, photographed by Torso, features eleven faces of anonymous people and personalities.
The “Cyber” capsule collection is available at JPG web store and a selection of the brand’s physical stores.
