@gabbois | A digital treasure

@gabbois has found in Instagram a way to build its own art gallery. Gab is comfortable in the uncomfortable, the confusing and the introspective.

Gab Bois says she enjoys showing the world what excites her. And if it turns out that what excites her is to take disturbing and uncomfortable photos with a lot of talent, DIY and an exacerbated love equally by piercings and Louis Vuitton, a digital treasure like her Instagram @gabbois account emerges.

To do this, she just uses the things she has at hand, including her own body – which serves as the only model in her work -to “only blame myself if the result doesn’t convince me”-. Gab is comfortable with the uncomfortable, the confusing, the introspective and above all the small things, as she continues to take her close ups with a disposable camera purchased from a discount store in Montreal, while returning a camera worth thousands of dollars to the store where she should have never taken it out.

Gab has found on Instagram a medium to build her own art gallery. It is her personal crusade too. About the platform she says it helps to get her photos recognized by thousands of people and personalities in the art world relatively quickly, but she hates how the culture of repost, the omission of sources and the appropriation of digital content blurs her authorship over the art she strives to create everyday. Even so, this has not been a reason to reduce her activity, which she describes as a hobby that does not advance in any particular direction beyond the expression of her thoughts and state of mind.

In the end, Gabbois’ (@gabboisself-referential, complex art has a simple explanation. Gab does what she does because she can. And she loves to show it to you, whether you like it or not.
