Following the sudden passing of Virgil Abloh, Awake NY founder and creative director Angelo Baque revealed that all proceeds from his brand’s upcoming collaboration with the Asics GEL-Kayano Trainer 21 will be donated to the Virgil Abloh Post-Modern™ Scholarship Fund. Planned for December 2, the collaboration will ultimately launch on December 10.
Later this week the new Awake NY x Asics GEL-Kayano 21 will be released, which is later than expected. Incorporating the same features as the 2014 version, this latest version retains the 90s sock design and GEL cushioning in the heel and forefoot.
The sneaker comes in two colour combinations. The first with cream and grey overlays on the upper and the second, Miami-inspired, with teal overlays. Both share the brown detailing on the toe cap and webbing and the green/orange touch on the heel.
The Awake NY x ASICS GEL-Kayano Trainer 21 will finally be released on December 10th and will be available through the Awake NY webstore.
