Virgil Abloh arrived at Louis Vuitton in March 2018 and made the Parisian house his own. With the keys to the men’s line in his hand, he successfully revolutionized it and his collections became a trend-setter. Men’s clothing has not been the same since the Illinois designer arrived in the international textile industry.
His latest work for the French brand is an ode to change and maturity. The evolution in the way men dress from boy to man by learning the details of conventional corporate clothing. Abloh‘s FW20 collection takes the classic codes of men’s fashion and transforms them into more informal and contemporary silhouettes through technique and manufacture.
One sample is exhibited as masterpieces, which is necessary to contemplate in order to understand the process of growth. A succession of looks that mark the transition of patterns. A complete collection of garments and accessories that includes several suits made of corduroy with military prints and others of diplomatic line, a reversible coat and a leather jacket. Also included are various footwear models such as monogrammed moccasins, boots with the same print and SS20 shoes in metal and mesh.
Among the pieces, Virgil highlights some more sophisticated ones like a classic dark brown deerskin blouse and a mink jacket with the Louis Vuitton motif. Recalling the firm’s origins, a small camouflage trunk is offered. Not only did the couturier evolve the garments in the collection, but also the corporate flower of the house underwent a multicolour image change.
Virgil Abloh and Louis Vuitton are the perfect combination. Mastery, ambition and vision are all that is needed to succeed in the new decade that is approaching.
