Extravagance, colour and circular shapes are some of the patterns that recur in the works of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. It was these characteristics that won over Marc Jacobs, then creative director of Louis Vuitton, in 2012. Thus, the iconic monogram of the brand was filled with the characteristic coloured dots of the Japanese artist, giving that pop aesthetic to some of the accessories and garments of the Parisian maison.

Now, a decade later, Louis Vuitton has announced a new collaboration with Yayoi Kusama. The announcement followed the presentation of Nicolas Ghesquière’s cruise 2023 collection for the brand, which took place in San Diego last week.

A preview of the new collaboration was seen at the show. In addition to the motif of coloured dots that had already been used in 2012, now more irregular and larger in size, this time there are also metallic dots in relief. These are a direct reference to the artist’s installation Narcissus Garden (1966), made up of 1,500 mirror spheres.

Although we have already been able to enjoy the first designs of the second chapter of Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama, the collection will go on sale in January 2023 in all its physical shops and on its website.
