Matthew Williams, founder and creative director of the 1017 ALYX 9SM brand, is the latest designer to join the Moncler Genius project. The collection walks the delicate line between functionality and fashion.
For his project in collaboration with Moncler (@moncler), 6 MONCLER 1017 ALYX 9SM, the Chicago designer (@matthewmwilliams) has conceived a collection with a metropolitan, modern and practical attitude. This is the latest in a long line of collaborations with brands such as Palm Angels, Simone Rocha and Craig Green.
The garments range from jackets to quilted parkas and very lightweight raincoats, as well as vests and leather coats, whose colour range moves around basic colours like black, grey, white with red spikes and orange.
The launch also includes some less expected items that open up new design territories for the luxury brand. Among the new items for Moncler we find chain belts with carabiners, chest rigs or necklaces.
The idea behind the whole collection is to merge the essence of the two brands. And they have succeeded. On the one hand, the advanced tailoring techniques and fabrics further demonstrate the DNA of 1017 ALYX 9SM. While other pieces, like the mesh and tops, are made of Econyl, an innovative regenerated nylon derived from waste materials and plastic recovered from the sea.
It is already on sale on the Moncler website and in specialist boutiques.
